Footsteps Into the Unknown
The winter was the coldest in anyone’s living memory and snow covered the whole area, even the rivers were frozen over and nobody wanted to venture out. When people did walk out, for the first time, they were totally surprised to see strange marks in the snow that seemed to traverse the whole of the countryside area.
The winter was the coldest in anyone’s living memory and snow covered the whole area, even the rivers were frozen over and nobody wanted to venture out for many days, until the icy cold winds subsided and it was all beginning to thaw.
Strange Marks In The Snow
When people did walk out, for the first time, they were totally surprised to see a single track of footprints that seemed to traverse the whole of the countryside area for more than ninety miles.
The footprints were about four inches long and about one foot apart and appeared to have been made by a large creature that had hoofs and was travelling completely upright on two legs.
They were seen in a continuous line through two towns, three villages, across people’s lawns, over rooftops and through medium sized holes in many walls and fences.
The strange footprints started from nowhere in a small wooded area just outside the local community and continued until they were finally seen to disappear just as mysteriously as they had started.
Speculation And Action
Speculation abounded as to what sort of creature could have possibly made these strange footprints. Some people said that they thought it was maybe a donkey and others suggested a large cat, a fox or other such creatures.
A group of local people decided to form a search across the whole area, but nothing was found, that of course did not stop all the country people talking and speculating as to what it might be.
A Lingering Doubt
Once the snow was all gone the conversations about what they had just seen should have go with it, but it did not. Parents refused to let their children out of the house in fear of what would harm them.
And the men stopped walking to the local drinking houses at night and were now spending much more time with their families.
Life had really changed so dramatically, not because of the harsh winter conditions, but because of the thoughts that were now in the people’s minds.
Life went on in the sleepy little villages and not so sleepy towns, but there was a distinct nervousness about the whole area and many of the community, no matter what their age, gave a shudder in their beds at night, hoping that the strange creature would never, ever return.
What are your thoughts, do you have a theory as to what could have caused these strange marks in the snow? Have you ever seen anything like this in your community?
Many of us may have had strange, unusual or even weird experiences in our lives and they often stay in our memory for a long time, leaving us feeling a little bit uncertain, but still the same very curious.
That’s what happens when we take footsteps into the unknown.
